I must warn you that you're in danger of touching upon one of my life's greatest passions and although I can talk about it for hours, Lomi Lomi is a grand, visceral adventure that needs to be experienced through the skin! To me, Hawaiian massage simply offers so much more, it seems to go deeper into our soul and our body, deeper into the integral oneness of our hearts. Lomi Lomi is the sacred foundation from which I work. 

 

 I don't want to overwhelm you with words, there’s plenty more of them down below. Especially as massage is really about touch, about feeling. To me, each session becomes a precious, deep moment of connection which I have the great honor of sharing with another human being. This moment can be intense, joyful, nurturing, sensual, relaxing, healing, emotional; it can be soft or deep, fast or slow; it can enfold and encapsulate. 

 

 But I do go on!

 

 Lomi Lomi is not a process to be rushed. For this reason, I charge for the session and not by the hour. I ask $150 per session which typically lasts 2 hours or more. People often feel the most profound and beautiful things within that time-frame.

 

 I deeply appreciate your interest. If what I do sounds intriguing and beautiful to you, then I'd love to schedule a time to meet. Lomi isn't for everyone. It isn't a simple massage. It's a soul journey that begins at the door of our own physical body. For some that journey is conscious, profound and wonderful, for others it's experienced at deeper levels of emotional and spiritual movement. I have no way to know if lomi lomi is for you or not. I try to remember my own bias and remind myself that not everyone wants to go that deeply down the rabbit hole!

A Traditional Session: This 2 hour long session blows away even the most jaded "spa pro." It is done without a bottom sheet on the massage table which allows the long, flowing strokes of Lomi Lomi to be performed on both the top and bottom of the body simultaneously. This is unlike any massage you’ve ever experienced before!

In Hawaii, this work is sacred and even in the islands remains rare. Based upon unconditional acceptance and love, it flows from the heart and must be felt to be understood.

Traditional Lomi Lomi Sessions are ideal for individuals who are comfortable with their own bodies, (or who desire to be) as draping is minimal, allowing an uninterrupted, open flow.  Lomi Lomi creates an honoring, gentle space to do something different and something very special for yourself. Still, draping should be a person’s last concern and you will be draped as much or as little as you need to feel fully comfortable, fully safe -- able to let go and allow the loving energy of Lomi to carry you away.  You don't have to be anything other than who you are. This is a time to let go and sink into a very relaxed, deep space of feeling and accepting your body.

The lineage of Lomi lomi of which I am a part, sometimes called Lomi Lomi Nui (the great massage) or temple style is very different from any other massage I've ever heard of or experienced. Unlike most massage methods used these days, Lomi comes from a radically different culture, with a radically different worldview, which creates both the wonder and the greatest challenge of doing Hawaiian Lomi Lomi here in the western world. It is ceremonial and ritualistic rather than primarily clinical or strictly therapeutic. The difference goes deeper than just the techniques, though those are different as well. I don't use a bottom sheet on the table; without the friction of cloth, I’m able to work both above and below your body simultaneously. The mind gets lost after awhile, unable to follow or anticipate which allows a person to really let go and sink into the sensation and the experience of being touched. Lomi Lomi is simultaneously stimulating and relaxing. The massage is very sensual by its nature. Your whole body is enveloped in unending sensation, making Lomi a truly unique experience.

 

It works on a very deep spiritual, sacred and energetic level, yet is expressed through an unending dance of extreme intimacy and sensuality: very Hawaiian things. Though the island people weren't very detail oriented and never codified the movement of energy this way, in my experience it is very akin to activating your kundalini circuits and moving your energy through that channel to higher and higher levels. When a person is able to let go and experience this movement, they tend to receive extraordinary gifts, far beyond the scope of a “regular” massage session, though this differs greatly from person to person.

 

For some people, it's an inner journey, for others a time of unconditional nurturing, unconditional love, a step away from the stress and cares of daily life. One never knows before hand. After all, on one level -- it's just a massage. On another level, it might open doorways to alternate states of consciousness and inner-realization for those who open up that fully. I've had people say that they experienced the comforting, unconditional love of Christ or their angels and guides, experience warm, welcoming bliss or cosmic awareness. Some describe seeing visions, taking a soul journey or feeling ecstatic union and oneness. Others have found relief from physical and/or emotional issues. I've had people report feeling a new relationship to their physical bodies or find acceptance for emotional issues that have been vexing to them.

 

I've also had people confronted with feelings and issues that they didn't want to look at. Lomi creates movement, energetically, emotionally and spiritually. This movement continues, sometimes for days after a session. I simply ask you to trust the process, and to be open to the movement of energy and emotion through out your body. My intention is to be as profoundly present and clear as possible, without preconceived notions or intentions.

 

Lomi Lomi can be one of the most intimate ways two people can interact with each other without being lovers. It is a safe place to experience unconditional love, nurturing, acceptance and the healing that flows within such a profound space. Where a therapist can remain aloof from a client, a lomi practitioner must be a participant in the journey, leading the way into deeper and deeper levels of oneness and union, while still holding absolute respect for boundaries and agreements.

 

One of the meanings of lomi lomi is to weave. Many of its movements are designed to both weave energy into and unravel blockages out of our energy fields and chakras, especially the heart chakra. As these centers release and disentangle, one might experience openness, deep inner stillness, a sinking in, a sacred response. Different layers of energy and emotion often present themselves: a person may experience a swelling of love or a certain level of eroticism; however, in lomi these are just another level of energy to joyfully experience without attachment. I believe that the most remarkable experiences unfold when that energy is allowed to simply ebb and flow, to rise through the chakras, activating each in turn. Again, this doesn't always happen, especially on a first appointment when one is a little uncertain what to expect and can be a bit guarded. Still, when it does it can be very cool. Being willing to experience whatever arises without expectation is what allows energy to rise to higher and higher levels of vibration and this rising is what creates the greatest and most profound experiences of Hawaiian Lomi Lomi.

If all this sounds too intense or strange, or if your feeling modest -- Maybe a traditional session isn’t for you. Another beautiful aspect of Lomi Lomi is that it forms a wonderful foundation from which to offer a more familiar massage which utilizes resort-level draping and a more “normal” protocol while still retaining the intention of sacredness, presence and clarity.
